There are times when I think the best thing we could do is return all the land to the Native Americans, assemble en masse at Plymouth Rock, and paddle back across the pond to England. Maybe they would take us back, especially if we promised to keep our mouths shut.

Wow.
The only hope — perhaps, like most television (”reality” or not) it’s a scripted farce, and she’s just saying her lines.
If not… Well. There ya go. Lots of consequences can be derived from that effect, eh?

Mark,
It never occurred to me that the whole thing could have been scripted. If so, I would be amazed … unfortunately, I think it’s an accurate reflection of an enormous segment of middle-American society…

Agreed.
Even if it’s scripted (and that wouldn’t surprise me), it’s appalling, since then it simply becomes a commentary on a) the ignorance and parochialism of the audience, and b) the cynicism of the media and the producers.
Oh, wait. All of those things apply either way, don’t they? Scripted or not. Sigh.
OK. I revise my comment — the only hope is that the little boy knew the answer.

We live in an era where fact is nuttier than fiction although in this case, I’m not sure.
But thanks to Mark for at least opening the door to the possibility of this being staged. If so, the “cast” was excellent.
