Version 39 of my Web 2.0 presentation, on Google Apps and PDF

After tracking down my orphaned Google Apps presentation document about Web 2.0 (see yesterday’s blog post for details), I’ve caught up on the additional items that I wanted to add to the material. The latest version is, once again, available as a Google Apps document, and you can see it by clicking here; you can also see a much prettier version of the same material by downloading a 17.4-megabyte PDF file; to do so, click here.

V39 PDF file

Here’s what I’ve added to the material:

  1. On page 7: I’ve included a link to an October 4, 2007 blog posting from Tim O’Reilly, which includes a nice characterization of what Web 2.0 is all about: “intelligence in the back end.”
  2. On page 33: I provided a link to an April 2007 blog posting that summarizes Chris Anderson’s “nine rules” for implementing a Long Tail business model; also provided a little more explanation of those nine rules on this page.
  3. On page 51: I added a bullet point to include the Zoho products as an example of Ajax technology.
  4. On page 96: I provided a controversional definition of Web 3.0 from Jason Calacanis, and a rebuttal from Tim O’Reilly.
  5. On page 99: I added a bullet point referencing David Pogue’s review of the $100 laptop project in the Oct 4, 2007 issue of The New York Times.
  6. On page 99: I added a hyperlink to point to the IEEE special issue on “pervasive computing”

I think that’s enough “content” for a while, though you never know what kind of new Web 2.0 developments may be announced today, tomorrow, or over the weekend. Meanwhile, though, I’m going to spend some time fixing up some of the clumsily-formatted text in the Google Apps version of the material.

If you have any suggestions or ideas about all of this, let me know. And if you’d like to be added to the list of collaborators, so you make your own changes and improvements to the Web 2.0 presentation, drop me a note.
