Down to 20 unread blog postings

August 3rd, 2007

As indicated in last night’s blog posting, I’m still catching up on the hundreds of unread blog postings that accumulated while I was dealing with client deadlines and family health problems over the past six weeks. I’m now down to 20 unread postings — and interestingly, 13 of them are from Steve Borsch’s Connecting the Dots blog. This guy always has something interesting to say, and his article are generally so thought-provoking that I can’t just skim them quickly and then delete them. Hopefully I’ll be able to digest all of Steve’s recent postings over the weekend, and then I’ll feel (temporarily) up-to-date once again. Thank goodness it’s August, when not much is happening…

I agree with Vince LaRue. They have not created a livnig cell, they have replaced the DNA in a livnig cell with an exact copy assembled artificially. It is a useful step forward, but it has been over-hyped.The danger is that crazy people might use this technology to engineer biological weapons – but that has been possible for years. The benefit is that bacteria or yeasts can be designed with custom DNA for making complex drugs, and possibly other chemicals.
