I’m back…

July 30th, 2007

Yeah, I know: it’s been a month and a half since I posted anything here … but I’m back.

I’ve been overwhelmed by two all-consuming client projects, as well as an ongoing family illness. And like many other hobbies and activities, blogging is something that requires frequent practice; not blogging for six weeks is like not visiting the gym for six weeks. Not only do I feel rusty and sluggish about the writing process itself, but I couldn’t even remember the URL for the Wordpress login page; couldn’t remember my password; and lost a page of brilliant prose by clicking somehow on the wrong button. Meanwhile, the Technorati “popularity” ranking for my blog, which had reached roughly 75,000 this spring, has dropped down to a mind-boggling 2,500,000 — partly because I launched a redesigned site in mid-May, with a different URL, and partly (perhaps largely) because the blog has been completely stagnant since mid-June. C’est la vie…

Nevertheless, I’m back … and it looks like the client projects have quieted down a little, and I won’t have much (if any) business travel for the rest of the summer. The family illness is ongoing, but it has settled into a more-or-less familiar routine of hospital visits for the time being, and I’ve figured out how to schedule all sorts of activities that I simply dropped for most of the month of June and July.

I had intended to start off this evening by writing about my experiences with my new iPhone; but it took so long to re-acquaint myself with the basics that I’ve run out of time for today.  But stay tuned; I’ll have something more substantive posted tomorrow, and hopefully I’ll return to my previous pace of frequent postings about various and sundry technological issues that cross my radar screen.

    Dear Dr. Yourdon,

I thought you would find this amusing. Someone has taken your concept of the Death March project and merged it with the five stages of grief:

    Frank,

Thanks for bringing this posting to my attention; I don’t think I would have seen it otherwise. I’ve posted a link to it on the “From Around the Web” sidebar on the right side of the blog.

    Cheers,
    Ed
