Web 2.0 v030I’ll be presenting a two-day seminar on Web 2.0 in Rome next week (see the calendar in the blog side-bar, on the right, for details), so I’ve added a few more entries to my mind-map, resulting in a new version v030. As always, you can find the mind-map in the “downloads” section of my website, or by simply clicking on this link to download the 8.80 megabyte PDF file.

Here’s a summary of what I’ve added or modified since the last update:

  1. On the “wikis” page, there’s a branch labeled “Examples,” where I’ve already provided hyperlinks to the Proctor & Gamble, and Eli Lilly projects. To this I’ve added a new link to a European pharmacy wiki/collaboration project, which also discusses the concept of “dark blogs.”
  2. I made a duplicate copy of the same link on the “Business” page, emphasizing the “dark blog” concept, on the branch labeled “Reactions and trends in large companies.”
  3. On the “Cultural Issues” page, under the “People Power/Employees/Blogs” branch, I had a sub-branch indicating the Microsoft has 3,000 internal blogs; I’ve now added another copy of that sub-branch to the “Business” page, in the branch labeled “Reactions and trends in large companies.” I intend to replace this in version 031 (probably this weekend) with a link to a recent posting in Chris Anderson’s “Long Tail” blog indicating that Microsoft actually has 3,500 bloggers. (Yeah, I should have put it into this version of the mind-map, but I had already uploaded it to my website, and it’s getting late, and I’m getting tired and grumpy. So there.)
  4. On the “Introduction” page, I reaplaced a reference to Google Docs & Spreadsheet with Google Apps.
  5. I had previously incorporated a link to the Essjay controversy on the appropriate spot of the “wiki” page; I’ve now added another reference to it on the “Introduction” page, in a sub-branch labeled “Society/Trust in Wikipedia”.
  6. I’ve added a link to the new Smartsheet project-management product to the “Web as Platform” sub-branch of the “Introduction” page; and I’ve posted Scobleizer’s review of SmartSheet to the “Other startups/small vendors” branch of the “Products/Vendors” page.
  7. I added a link to the video clip of the Daily Show’s commentary about Viacom’s lawsuit against Google to the “People Power/Citizens/Political Commentary” branch on the “Culture” page.

As always, the mind-map was created by typing the text and links — along with various graphics and JPEG images — into a mind-mapping tool called ConceptDraw MindMap. The 16-page mind-map was then exported to a PDF file, with all of the hyperlinks preserved. There are lots of other mind-mapping tools available; all you need to do is google the term “mindmap,” and you’ll get an enormous list of articles, tutorials, and “sponsored links” for various tools and products. And if you wonder why on earth I’m using a mindmap presentation, rather than Powerpoint, I invite you to read through my blog posting titled “Sayonara Powerpoint“.

Chances are I’ll add a few more last-minute goodies to the mind-map this weekend, just before I present the Rome seminar … and I may get some interesting some interesting feedback, questions, and comments from the Rome audience, which I’ll post here as soon as I can.

Ciao for now…

whoever created the Yourdon report had to be drunk on some kind thunderbird or coke. as a guest on the ship of honor in the parade of Tall Ships in the Bicentenial Celebration on July 4, 1986 in New York Harbor, I have to say “yourdon” was only in error by a smidgen of only ten years.

He should also remove his pain by destroying his camera and turning to tiddly-winks; his picture work is even more crude than mine.
