Error messages with a sense of humor

On a whim, I decided to ask Technorati about the popularity of a friend’s blog; but when I typed the URL into its search box, I got a message that said:

Huh?

There are blogs, and then there’s whatever you just typed in. If it’s a blog, we don’t know about it. Maybe you made a typo. Or maybe it’s a blog that doesn’t exist. Maybe you don’t exist. (In which case, please ignore this.)

Well, I think that I exist (cogito ergo sum), and I’m looking at my friend’s blog on my browser right now — so I know it exists. But I guess it’s so obscure that Technorati doesn’t know about it yet.

Well, that’s okay … but I have to admit that the snarky error message brought a smile to what had started off as a serious, somber, no-nonsense business day. I wish all websites, computer programs, embedded systems, and other forms of automation were equally humorous … without getting ridiculous about it.

At the same time, I would caution the Technorati programmers to change the above error message ever few months. I don’t expect that I’ll be running into to it very often, but after the third or fourth time I see it, it will be very, very stale…
