With a great deal of help from my friends at dataLAB, I’ve started a wiki project to revise and update the Just Enough Structured Analysis manuscript that’s been sitting on my web site for the past several years. You can find it — and, hopefully, jump in and start participating, by clicking here.
Much has changed since my structured analysis book was first written in the late 1980s — e.g., client-server technology, followed by Java and the Internet/Web, wireless computing, the rise and fall of the dot-coms, the growing popularity of object-oriented and component-based technologies, etc. Hence, the decision to make this material available for contributors throughout the software engineering community to edit, amend, and/or delete as they see fit.
Chapter 9 of Just Enough Structured Analysis has been exceptionally popular since it was made available on website (largely, I suspect, because it was referenced in Wikipedia’s article on dataflow diagrams), and will thus provide the initial fodder for this Wiki. Over time, the remaining 24 chapters (and eight Appendices) will also be made available, so be sure to check the Table of Contents regularly.
