A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Narendra Rocherolle from 30 Boxes, and talking with him about the evolution of calendar tools, email, and organizational habits of the younger generation of Web surfers (aka “Generation Y”). I wrote up my thoughts about 30 Boxes here, and then followed it up with some comments here about recurrent themes from the Web 2.0 vendor community, and finally some thoughts here about Generation Y’s perspectives.
My NetNewsWire blog aggregator just notified me that Narendra has written a long, thoughtful blog posting entitled “The Impact of the Social Web on Personal Organization.” You really need to read it; whether or not you agree with the details, you should take to heart his comment that
“We hold the folks at 37signals in high regard not only for their stellar products but also because of their commitment to challenging assumptions and ability to rethink solutions. We think more companies (big and small) should have this approach in their endeavors.”
Challenging assumptions and yesterday’s “solutions” is, I think, a big part of what Web 2.0 is all about. That shouldn’t surprise us: it’s a big part of what any new wave of technology is all about.
Thanks for the insight and perspective, Narendra. Keep up the good work!
