I’ve created yet another new version of my Web 2.0 mind-map; you can download the PDF file (a whopping 6.87 megabytes this time) by surfing over to the www.yourdon.com/downloads area of my website, or by clicking here.
I’ve added several new items to the previous version of the mind-map:
- I added a link to the YouTube video that shows a mashup of George Bush appearing to sing/recite the words from U2’s “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” in the “political commentary” sub-sub-branch, of the “society” sub-branch on the “Introduction: What’s It All About?” page of the mind-map.
- As a contrast to the “grass-roots” YouTube video of George Bush and U2, I added a link to the YouTube video that shows the Saturday Nite Live satirical spoof of George Bush giving a speech on global warming from his ranch in Crawford, Texas — also in the “political commentary” sub-sub-branch, of the “society” sub-branch on the “Introduction: What’s It All About?” page of the mind-map.
- I added a link to a survey showing the conservative reaction from corporate CIO’s to Web 2.0, on a new branch entitled “reactions and trends within large companies,” on the “Business Issues” page of the mind-map
- I added a link to a YouTube video entitled “Day of the Long Tail” to the “concept” branch of the Long Tail branch of the mind-map. I should mention that I found the reference to this YouTube video on Chris Anderson’s Long Tail blogsite.
- I added a link to a new book, Building Scalable Web Sites, to the list of recommended books, on the Books page of the mind-map.
- I added a link to a site entitled Web 2.0 Slides, which purports to contain a self-running slide show displaying 1,400 Web 2.0 sites (no, I didn’t count them all, so I can’t guarantee it’s an accurate count.) This can be found on the Websites/Blogs page of the mind-map.
- I reorganized and expanded the materials on the “Trends” page of the mind-map, and it now has about three dozen links and references to such things as the difficulties of making predictions about trends; the resistance to “paradigm shifts” by society and scientists; a couple of comments about what Web 3.0 will be all about, including a link to a list of cool Web 3.0 apps, and a link to my summary of Kevin Kelly’s keynote address at the Amsterdam NextWeb conference at the beginning of this month; some comments about the ramifications of Moore’s Law on the technological trends of Web 2.0; some comments on likely business trends going forward from today’s Web 2.0; and some comments on likely cultural/social trends going forward from today’s Web 2.0. You’ll find lots of stuff to read about and think about on this new page of the mind-map.
Meanwhile, I’m sure there’s still more stuff to add; and as always, my NetNewsWire blog-reader continues reporting the existence of new articles, product announcements, conferences, and blog postings every day. But while it’s not complete, the mind-map is now fairly rich and extensive, and should give you a reasonable overview of what Web 2.0 is all about.
